Yin Yoga

My weekly Yin Yoga classes are paused for the moment.

In yin yoga we come into a pose to an appropriate depth, find stillness, and hold ourselves there for a period of time. Then rest in rebound to allow the body to recover. I will be working mainly within the 3-5 minute window, though some poses may be held for a few minutes longer.

The benefits of yin are both physical and emotional. For the body, we are stressing the connective tissues, fascia, joints and bones. Often when we move or exercise we focus on the muscles, yin is an opportunity to round out our movement ‘diet’ - stressing and then recovering different tissues. Emotionally and mentally, the stillness we find and the time we hold ourselves in pose creates a space for reflection, mindfulness, connection to the body. Staying present with ourselves in the moment, perhaps whilst feeling a sensation of discomfort in the body.

It is a beautiful and often relaxing practice, accessible to all, as we prioritise feeling the pose in the body over aesthetic appearance and there are many modifications available to cater to everyone.
